PTA Committee and Club Descriptions 2015-2016

Acknowledgement Committee: Sends correspondence or assistance to our Ben Franklin family when appropriate.


Adult Fundraiser: An all school fundraiser for adults typically held in the winter months.


Ambassadors Club:  A school service organization for 5th graders. Students who commit to this group are responsible caring young leaders that will serve as role models of service and character to the student body.


Art Appreciation:  An interactive art history/world cultures experience for children of all grade levels. Parent volunteers will teach an Art Appreciation class to each grade several times throughout the year.


Bingo Night: Enjoy a night of pizza and bingo with your children’s classmates.


Birthday Books: The collection of books that are handed out to each child on their birthday or ½ birthday throughout the school year.


Book Fair:  Promote a love of books and reading while benefiting the school and our library as a school fundraiser.


Book Swap: An annual spring event where children can bring in books they are already read and swap with fellow students for new books they can read over the summer.


Chess Club:  A fun club open to children of all grades and playing levels to learn the game of chess.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in tournaments and learn strategy.


Community Outreach:  The coordination and execution of meaningful projects for students to share their time and talents for those in need within our Ben Franklin community and beyond.


Cultural Arts: Coordinate cultural arts assemblies and enrichment programs for the students.


Destination Imagination: Teams of students that compete against other schools to develop creative solutions to problems devised by the worldwide Destination Imagination Association.


Directory/App: Creation and management of the Student Communication Directory and App.


Drama Club: Direct and prepare the 2nd-5th grade students to perform a play each spring.


5th Grade Celebration:  Plan and schedule a year-end celebration for graduating 5th graders.


Family Math:  Family event held by grade level that make math fun and successful for children.


Garden Committee: The care and watering of our Franklin courtyard over the summer and holiday breaks.


Health & Wellness Day:  Assist the school nurse with vision and hearing screening and school wide health concerns as they arise.


High Interest Day:  An all day school wide event where students, teachers and parents participate in various educational and career-oriented activities.


Hobby Night: An annual evening event where students can display and talk about their hobbies or collections.


Charleston Wrap:  Work with the Charleston vendor to coordinate wrapping paper sales for a pre-holiday fundraiser.


Keyboarding Club: An after school club where kids grades 2nd-5th can enhance their keyboarding skills through a self-guided computer program.


Kindergarten Welcoming Committee:  Orient and welcome Kindergarten families to Ben Franklin.


Library Enrichment: A collection of events and activities coordinated by our Ben Franklin librarians to enhance and inspire the love of books and reading for the students.


Library Media Center Coordinator:  Coordinate volunteers to assist in the library. Volunteers help with checking in/out books, straightening, shelving, and other activities as needed.


Literacy Specialist Support:  Assist the Ben Franklin Literacy Specialist assembling A-Z reading books for Kindergarten and First Grade along with other projects as needed.


Lost & Found: Keep our Franklin lost and found organized.  Deliver all unclaimed items to Goodwill twice yearly.


Membership: Help to reach new families and expand PTA memberships.


Outdoor Play: Improving the outdoor experience for the students during lunch recess.


PTA Newsletter: A newsletter to provide our Franklin Parents with details on what the PTA has accomplished throughout the school year, and what is on the to do list.


Pumpkin Fest: A school wide social event for families including games and activities, raffles and baked goods.


Purchase IncentivesMaintain/monitor school accounts for the following programs:  Dine Out Events,  Box Tops for Education, and others.


Reading Enrichment: Events and activities that promote reading. Ozzy Reading Club/Cougar’s Night competition, Literary Pumpkins, Bluestem Breakfast


Reflections:  Works with local participants in the annual national PTA sponsored writing, music and art show and competition.


Running Clubs:  Running program that encourages kids to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.  Open to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade boys and girls.


Robotics Club: A class offered during lunch for 3-5th graders to learn how to program Lego Robotics.


Safety:  Work with other D41 schools, Ben Franklin staff, and the village of Glen Ellyn to ensure the safety of Ben Franklin students and staff.


School Pictures:  Coordinate volunteers to help on picture day in the fall.


School Sign:  Update and maintain the sign in front of school with upcoming activities and announcements.


School Sportswear:  Coordinates and organizes the spirit wear store.  Sale is in the fall each year.


School Supplies:  Coordinates the orders for school supply kits and facilitates the distribution at the start of school.


Science Night:  Coordinate annual night for students to display and talk about a science experiment they have conducted.


SSPAC: Student Services Parent Advisory Council. A district wide PTA group that promotes awareness, education, support and acceptance of students with special needs of all kinds in Glen Ellyn School District 41.


Social Committee:  Helps plan and execute social events for Ben Franklin families, including the Ice Cream Social, Pizza bingo Nights and other family activities.


Square Art Project: Coordinates the execution of the tile wall project. This is an all student and staff activity.


Staff Appreciation: Coordinates a week of special offerings to show our appreciation to Ben Franklin’s staff.


Talent Show:  Coordinate student acts for an annual show.


Web Site: Manages and maintains the Ben Franklin PTA website.


Who is Ben Franklin? An after school program where the kids can learn about Ben Franklin and the lasting imprint he made on our lives today.


Yearbook: Orchestrate the formatting, printing and distribution of the yearbook.


Yoga at Lunch:  Facilitate Yoga class with certified instructor for students during lunch. Grades 3-5.
